Our last League game for points toward standing in our division was with Middlebury under cloudy skies and 60F/15C. In the past they were congenial and easy to play against, but we wanted to do our best to stay near the top of our division. Also, Erika’s folks were there and maybe others!
Middlebury was very energetic and got off the first shot that went wide. After their Middlebury corner kick and free kick from midfield, they sent another shot wide before Nathalie had her shot go wide in the 28th minute.
Hattie had a shot go over, and Abby H a good shot saved before Caitlin got her head on the ball for our goal in the 31st minute.
Middlebury had a free kick from midfield, a free kick in our third and a shot that went wide before their corner kick as the half ended.
During the break we spoke about maintaining good passing quality, switching the attack and using the full width of the field.
Middlebury continued their high intensity with a shot that went high and a free kick in our third.
Abby H earned a free kick in their third taken by Sara, whose good shot saved, before Hattie’s shot was saved for a corner taken by Nathalie.
Erika had a shot go wide and Caitlin had a shot saved before Middlebury sent a shot wide and had another shot saved by Molly. Then Sara’s shot was saved before Middlebury sent a shot into the upper left of our net from the right.
Eliza had a shot saved for a corner taken by Liv before Liv’s shot went wide. Middlebury had a free kick in their third before their shot went wide.
Nathalie earner a corner kick taken by Eliza before Julia’s shot went over. Hattie earned a free kick in their third, and Sara had a shot saved before Avery’s shot hit the cross-bar in the 78th minute.
Molly saved another shot before their long-distance shot tucked just under our cross-bar for their game-winner.
Having not won a game this fall before this one, they were elated. We may have been surprised by their high level of physicality, and we out-shot them, but this is a very difficult sport to forecast!
